Our pets are an important part of our lives.  They become members of our family and integrated parts of our daily routines.  But, often times, when money gets tight our beloved pets are the ones that can suffer the consequences when veterinary care is needed but becomes an unaffordable luxury due to unexpected economic restraints.  However, for only a few dollars a month we can ensure that our pets will be able to have the care that they need at a price we can afford. Read more tips from your Insurance Navigator.

Most people are unaware that pet insurance is an available option for their pet, but it is.  And just like health and medical insurance for your family, it is there to help absorb the cost when an unexpected illness or accident occurs that requires medical attention.

Families are frequently caught off guard when a pet emergency occurs and they are not prepared financially to get their pet the treatment that it may unexpectedly require.  The family dog may suddenly need an unexpected hip surgery after a run at the park. And even the best “pet proof” homes have had the occasional child feed Rover a bite of their chocolate bar.  Accidents happen, and it is nice to know that you and your pet are covered when they do.

Because our pets can, and often times do, hide their health problems, a pet owner can suddenly find themselves needing to pay for regular medical treatments and medications that they hadn't initially expected when they had initially adopted their companion.  Your pet insurance will enable you to have regular checkups and blood and urine screenings for your pet, to help detect those hidden health issues so that you and your pet are not taken by surprise later.

It is important to enroll your pet into an insurance program while it is still young.  A younger, hyperactive dog is more likely to find itself injured due to accidents, and pre-existing conditions can develop as your pet ages.  Some pet insurance programs also have an age limit that your pet must fall within.  If you are unsure of your pet’s age your veterinarian should be able to establish it for you.

Also, make no mistake, pet Insurance is not just for our furry friends, either.  Sure, you can get insurance for your dog and cat. But you can also insure your guinea pig, your snake, iguana, horse or parakeet. For more tips visit the Insurance Navigators homepage
